Holding a Page: Enhanced Page Level Access Control for Database Systems
نویسندگان
چکیده
A new scheme for physically accessing tuples by multiple transactions is described for database systems using a shared memory buuer cache. Using this scheme, a transaction must rst obtain logical permission to access a tuple, for example, by taking a lock on the tuple. Once logical permission has been granted, a page level latch is taken for the initial physical access to the tuple. However, by the introduction of a new primitive, hold, into the latching system which ensures that the tuple is not moved, a latch on the page is not required to subsequently read the tuple. This brings the physical level of concurrency closer to the logical level of concurrency. Our scheme is compared with other schemes which can be used for access control.

Due to increasing in cyber-attacks, the need for web servers attack detection technique has drawn attentions today. Unfortunately, many available security solutions are inefficient in identifying web-based attacks. The main aim of this study is to detect abnormal web navigations based on web usage profiles. In this paper, comparing scrolling behavior of a normal user with an attacker, and simu...
متن کاملPrefetching techniques for client server object-oriented database systems
The performance of many object-oriented database applications suffers from the page fetch latency which is determined by the expense of disk access. In this work we suggest several prefetching techniques to avoid, or at least to reduce, page fetch latency. In practice no prediction technique is perfect and no prefetching technique can entirely eliminate delay due to page fetch latency. Therefor...

The Internet has been growing tremendously in the recent years and applications like web browsing are becoming increasingly popular. In a collective effort to provide seamless access to the Internet, wireless equipment manufacturers and service providers are developing 3G wireless systems that efficiently support current and future Internet applications. In this paper, we evaluate the performan...
متن کاملClotho: Decoupling page layout from storage organization
As database application performance depends on the utilization of the disk and memory hierarchy, and the speed gap between the processor and memory components widens, smart data placement plays a central role in increasing locality and in improving memory utilization. Existing techniques, however, do not optimize accesses to all levels of memory hierarchy and for all the different workloads, be...
متن کاملReused Page Management for Log-Structured Flash Storage Systems
Recently, a flash memory has become a major database storage in building portable information devices because of its non-volatile, shock-resistant, power-economic nature, and fast access time for read operations. We propose a new scheme called flash memory shadow paging (FMSP) scheme for efficient page management in a flash memory database environment. We improved traditional shadow paging sche...
